How is StudentSpace different from other locator services?
StudentSpace is different because we focus solely on graduate students, professors, and anyone affiliated with graduate education. We’ve been in your shoes and we know how to serve you better than any other service out there. We understand your travel needs, time and budget constraints and potential family concerns – we can give you the guidance and support that you are looking for.
How is StudentSpace really a free service?
Our services are FREE to you because the property owners and/or property managers we work with pay our fee.
How does StudentSpace work?
It’s actually an easy process:
i) You start by contacting us by phone or email. We are here to answer your questions about ANYTHING, from unit sizes, rental rates and utility costs to medical professional discounts and nearby restaurants.
ii) If you are able to visit the city to look at buildings, the next step is to take a tour with us. Call directly or set up an appointment through the website for a tour. If you plan on touring more than 2 months prior to your expected lease date, please note that some buildings may have to put your name on a waitlist.
iii) If you can’t visit, no problem! We help plenty of students remotely every year. Contact us by email or phone to help.
iv) Next step is to sign a lease – we will help you through the process and answer all your questions.
When should I start looking for an apartment?
We always advise students to start looking as early as possible. With that said, we often help students move-in a week before they start. Either way, you should login to our website or feel free to contact us with questions to help you begin your search.
With regards to signing a contract and touring, we generally advise touring a building approximately 30 to 60 days prior to your desired move-in-date. However, even if you only have a couple days before you want to move, we can help. We have apartments ready to move into 365 days a year.
What areas does the StudentSpace cover?
We represent rentals and homes for sale all throughout the Chicago-land area as well as Evanston and Hyde Park.
What type of housing options does the StudentSpace handle?
The quick answer is that StudentSpace handles everything: studios, convertibles (typically a hybrid between a studio and 1BR), one, two and three bedrooms and well as single-family homes. While we focus on high-rise buildings near your school, we also work with lofts, condos and more.
What if I need a short-term or furnished apartment?
Although the majority of our apartments are unfurnished with a 12-month lease, limited short-term and furnished options are available.
Do you have apartments that accept pets?
Do I need to make an appointment?
It is a good idea to set an appointment from April until August, but we always have agents ready to assist walk-ins.
What should I bring to my appointment?
It’s not initially required but it’s often a good idea to bring any documents that may be useful in the approval process: Proof of income (offer letter, tax receipts, check stubs, etc.), past rental contact phone numbers, co-signer information (if applicable), as well as a payment method (such as a personal check) to secure the apartment, especially if you plan on signing that weekend.
How long will my appointment take?
Appointment times may vary depending on the number of apartments you choose to see. We generally recommend allowing 2-3 hours.

Where is your office located?
Right on the corner of Lake Shore Drive and Superior at 420 East Superior, Suite RB 181 – just a couple blocks east of Michigan Avenue (Red Line Chicago stop). But, we’ll gladly meet you wherever is convenient for you! Please call us before heading to the office as we may be on a tour!
